The last Unicorn

HTL/ College Project - Fictional Brief

The brief was to create a poster that raises awareness for an issue that Greenpeace would be concerned with. While Narwhals are not yet endangered (2018), they are threatened by climate change, the fishing industry, hunting, and contaminated environments.

Brief:

  • 1x A3 Poster

  • Optimised for Screen Printing with max of 2 Colors

  • Needed to advertise a current problem covered by Greenpeace

Poster Design

Concept

The last unicorn! Weird way to advertise the possible extinction of a animal. But definitely an eye raiser and a big contrast to the topic on hand.

This contrast gets further pushed by the visually communicated Idea of showing the a seemingly happy Narwal, in an over-romanticised pink sea. The X as eye and upside down position of the whale paint a different picture though.

'Take off your rose tinted glasses!' reveals the over-romanticised look may hide what is really happening, and should make the viewer think about what the poster really wants to communicate:

If the Narwal actually goes extinct, what makes it any less fiction than a unicorn? And is this a Fairytail you would want to make a reality?
